Creative Avenues to Understanding Biology via Applied Total Synthesis and Chemical Mimicry

Natural products provide a unique platform to understanding biological processes. They often have innate and unforeseen biological activities. Through chemical synthesis and suitable modification of natural products, aberrant disease states of cells can be explored and exploited therapeutically. Also, disease-associated pathways and biomolecules can be unveiled for the first time. In this presentation, a series of total synthesis cases studies will be presented in our continuing endeavors to explore and understand malaria, tuberculosis, drug resistance, and cancer.
